With transient travellers making up a lot of Byron Bay’s customer base, there have been some incredible sauna and ice bath spaces in Byron Bay pop up to capture the needs of people looking for a wellness day out in Byron Bay.

1. The Banya Mullumbimby

The Banya Bath House in Mullumbimby is a local favourite. The Banya is a bath house style space offering an amazing sanctuary for a few hours to chill out and switch off with friends. It can get quite busy and social, so if you are looking for a quiet relaxing recovery space this is not the spot, unless you try the less busy off peak hours in the day for your sauna and ice.

The Banya is a Russian style bath house and has a standout traditional sauna powered by fire wood, which is the first one of this kind we have come across in a commercial environment, making it one of the more unique Byron Bay sauna offerings.

The space is beautifully designed with a mix of natural elements that make you feel grounded and rejuvenated, with some quite spaces to chill out on day beds in between hot and cold cycles. They provide a traditional Finnish sauna, a cold plunge pool, amazing Hammam style steam room, a couple of hot spas, mineral pool, and a relaxation lounge. The Banya also offers massages, plus a small restaurant and drink bar making it a great spot for a group wellness day.

Bonus tip: if you are looking for a great dinner spot after, Rosetta Italian around the corner is amazing!

2. Comma Byron Bay

Comma is known for its minimalist and chic design, offering a high end approach to wellness. Comma Byron is a reasonably private sauna and ice bath experience, although you may be sharing the space with up to eight people at a time. Comma is quiet and peaceful enough so you can go for an hour and a bit to fully switch off, while still a mildly social sauna and ice bath experience.

Their ice baths are set at the perfect temperature to provide maximum benefits without being too overwhelming. The sauna experience at Comma is top-notch, with high-quality facilities that leave you feeling refreshed, with a big focus on cleanliness and a quality wellness session. What stands out is their attention to detail and the calming ambiance that makes it easy to relax and enjoy your session.

The large hot rock sauna gives that quintessential sauna experience with the amazing smells of the sauna timber, and the heat is always high, without the worry of too many people walking in and out of the sauna like you may experience during busy times at somewhere like Banya.

There is no set order you need to use the facilities, you just get 90 minutes to cycle between the stand out cold tubs, hot tub and the beautiful sauna until your floating high – don’t forget to try the Pail shower for an invigorating blast of cold post sauna.

3. Social Remedy Byron Bay

Social Remedy was one of the original gyms we frequented back in the day, and they were one of the first to expand their offering to an upstairs recovery space to compliment the gym, offering gym only, gym and recovery or a variety of walk in prices.

Social remedy combines a social atmosphere with wellness, making it a unique spot in Byron Bay. They offer both traditional and infrared saunas, as well as 6 ice baths lined up at different temperatures. The idea is to create a community around wellness, where people can come together, recover, and socialise.

It’s a great social sauna with a quality tower rock heater which pumps out strong heat even for the size of the sauna, and they also offer a hyperbaric chamber, cryotherapy and IV drip therapy if you want to go for the full stack.

4. Kiva Spa Mullumbimby

If you’ve been to Byron over the years, you would know that Kiva is one of the OG Byron Bay sauna and wellness spaces in the area. It’s definitely still around, albeit a little bit weathered compared to some of the new and improved offerings for sauna, ice, and other wellness modalities in Byron and surrounds.

Located in Mullumbimby, only a 20-minute drive from Byron, Kiva Spa offers a very authentic sauna experience with its wood-fired sauna, lush garden setting, and a variety of spa treatments. It’s a little on the grungy side, and people often say its had its time, but it is still a charming and peaceful spot that retains its original charm and continues to be a favourite for many locals.

Just down the road from Banya Bath house, but a very different experience in terms of fitout, quality, price and crowd.

5. Nimbus and Co Byron Bay

Nimbus and Co was another early mover in the Byron bay sauna and ice bath scene.

This is for a truly private experience, where you can book private rooms for different length sessions of sauna or hot and cold therapy combinations.

You pay a little more here, but if you want a fully private experience with no interruptions and full control over the temperature of your sauna and the atmosphere of your wellness session, this is where you go. Set up one of the dedicated Ipads to play your fav podcast or Netty series while you sweat.

The space is designed to be a sanctuary for health and healing, with clean and contemporary interiors that add to the vibe of the session.

6. Body Worx Byron Bay

Body Worx has recently pumped up their offering to include a cool new wellness and recovery space, something many gyms are finding they need to do to hold onto their members. We’ve helped some gyms achieve this with our Stoic Ice Bath and Chiller Combo.

Body Worx has traditionally been a budget gym, but has done some renovations which include a new look recovery space that offers traditional sauna, infrared sauna, ice bath, steam room, magnesium spa and more.

They have a couple of different options for ice baths including a hot and cold plunge room as well as a large acrylic ice bath in their private recovery room. They also offer steam room, infrared sauna and air hydroxy sessions.

The comprehensive range of facilities ensures that you can take care of all your recovery needs in one place, making it a convenient and effective option for both locals and visitors.
