Micron ratings indicate the size of particles a filter can remove. A 20-micron filter catches smaller particles than a 50-micron filter. Specifically:
20 Micron: Captures finer debris and impurities, resulting in cleaner, clearer water.
50 Micron: Allows larger particles to pass through, which may require more frequent cleaning.
Many assume that a higher number means better filtration. In reality, the lower the micron rating, the finer the filtration. A 20-micron filter provides superior water clarity compared to a 50-micron filter, making it the better choice for maintaining a pristine ice bath - that’s why we use them!
Superior Ice Bath Filtration
Water filters are rated by the size of the particles they can remove, which is measured in microns. Microns are a unit of measurement used to describe the size of particles that can be filtered out by a water filtration system.
We use superior 20 micron pleated paper filters which filter out super fine particles and bacteria to keep your ice bath water as clean as possible, without chemicals. A lot of ice bath filtration systems use inferior micron ratings for their filters like 50 microns, which don’t offer the same level of ice bath water filtration to provide you the cleanest and safest water possible while still maintaining good flow. Filters with a smaller micron rating (such as 5 or 1 micron) can clog more quickly, requiring more frequent replacement and maintenance.
A 20-micron filter, on the other hand, has a longer lifespan because it captures larger particles that do not clog the filter as quickly. Overall, our 20-micron ice bath filters provide the optimal level of filtration in protecting more sensitive filtration stages of the chiller, maintaining water flow rates, and reducing maintenance frequency.
Ice Bath Filters FAQ’s
-
We recommend changing your ice bath filter after no more than 4 weeks based on a single daily ice bath ritual.
Your need to change the filter will be determined by how well you wash off before plunging, if you skim your water of floating debris after each use, and how many people use the ice bath each day.
Higher traffic use of the ice bath may result in needing to change your filter weekly or sooner.
-
The main indicators you need to change your ice bath filter include:
Your water is becoming brown and dirty
Your filter has a lot of build up and is an even coverage of brown
Your water flow rate drops consistently below 15L/min or your chiller shuts off.
The chiller filter is one of the best and easiest ways to ensure your ice bath water remains clean and clear and that your chiller continues to run smoothly!
-
To change your ice bath filter you can follow a few simple steps as laid out in your product Digital Manual.
To change your filter you should first ensure you have powered off your chiller.
Then isolate the water flow before removing the chiller filter canister.
Remove your dirty chiller filter before inserting your fresh filter (removing any plastic wrapping before inserting).
Screw in your filter canister firmly hand tight ensuring your ice bath filter is not crushed or crimped.
Open any isolation valves and power back on your chiller unit.
-
The ice bath filters remove hair, skin, clothing fluff, floating debris and other fine particles that contribute to bacteria growth in the ice bath.
-
The filters are washable, however we do not recommend continuing to use the filter for too long particularly if it is affecting the flow rate.
-
Yes, our paper filters suit many ice bath chiller brands. Our filters are 25cm x 6.5cm and are suitable to use with some other chiller units.
How The Ice Bath Paper Filter Works
The ice bath filter is the key element of the ice bath chiller that allows the water to cycle through, picking up floating debris, hair, fluff and bacteria before it enters the cooling system. The ice bath filter features a double open end which lets water travel in from the tub via the chiller hoses, with very small (20 micron) spaces in the pleated paper filter, which allow for water flow while capturing maximum particles to keep your ice bath water clean.
Once the ice bath filter build up with debris, it can either be washed and replaced if it is not overly soiled, or replaced with a fresh paper filter.
